MAX

Hip Dislocation

Max, a male domestic short haired cat, presented to the hospital after possibly being hit by a car. Max had a wobbly gait and was painful in his hind end, but was otherwise ok. After taking a series of radiographs, it was found that Max had a dislocated hip. Dislocated hips in cats are not easily replaced and since the bone will always rub against the hip, it will be painful until fixed. The treatment of choice is to remove the top portion of the femur so there is no longer a connection between the hip and the socket. A false joint will eventually form allowing Max to live a normal life! Max continues to do well today.
